Fearfull Dog Grooming
Have a dog who is worried about being handled? Whether your dog is a little nervous, or scared enough to have been kicked out of other grooming salons - lets see if we can help!
Using positive reinforcement based training, understanding of canine consent, and an array of modern training techniques we aim to keep all dogs comfortable , calm, and cooperative through their day at the spa.

-
At Spike Dog Grooming we use treats, toys, and attention as rewards and to create a conditioned emotional response with all of our clients.
-
Spike Dog Grooming is considered a 'low volume' grooming salon, minimizing the noise and activity of other dogs and groomers.
-
We are crate optional, and our "straight through" grooming can be a relief to dogs who don't like to be separated from their guardians for too long.
-
Have a dog who needs mom or dad with them for moral support during grooming? We can accommodate that!
-
Soft Paw Mats are used to help cushion surfaces for dogs with joint pain, arthritis, or high standards of luxury.
-
Calming dog pheromones are sprayed multiple times a day to help create a relaxed atmosphere for our four legged friends.
-
Although it may put the dog groomers to sleep, Pet Acoustics are played all day - music scientifically proven to reduce cortisol levels in canines!
-
Puzzle toys and Licki-bones are used for dogs who need a little beef-flavored confidence boost during challenging parts of grooming.
-
Private times can be booked for dogs who needs to be the only animal in the salon.
-
We work with multiple local R+ dog trainers and are happy to refer one to you, as well as working along side them to help your dog!
Master Groomer Behavior Specialist
- Evaluation and Behavior Modification Plan -
Shop owner and head groomer Liz Jackson has earned the title of Master Groomer Behavior Specialist. If your dog needs a real solid, actionable plan -she can help!

Setup a behavioral evaluation appointment and Liz can create a comprehensive Behavior Modification Plan for your dog! You are welcome to take your new Behavior Modification Plan to your dog trainer, your vet, or even another groomer if you already have one you trust or our shop doesn't feel like the right fit.

At your behavioral evaluation appointment Liz will talk with you about your dog's needs, history, fears, and your goals. She will also interact with your pup through training, with toys, and with simulated grooming to experience first hand your dog's body language, triggers, and unique likes and dislikes.
We are happy to make plans and evaluations for other groomers!

Puppy Grooming
Introducing young dogs to grooming is a very important task! Ask yourself an important question - if you wanted your pup to grow up being safe around kids, at what age would you start introducing him to children? How often would you want him interacting with kids to make sure? "He was raised with kids" seems to be the gold standard!
Grooming is no different! If we raise puppies with frequent visits to the dog groomer -in a kind and thoughtful way- we can have a dog who is great at grooming!

The Fenris Puppy Program was created by Liz Jackson -a Master Groomer Behavior Specialist in training and Fear Free Certified Dog Groomer, and Mykala Harms - a +R dog Trainer. The Fenris Puppy Program has been used successfully on pet dogs, agility sport dogs, and dogs who grew up to become Champion show dogs! In this program we see your puppy for the individual they are, letting them set the pace with some gentle encouragement as we gradually introduce all aspects of grooming in a fun and rewarding way!
